Winter in Copenhagen

What’s winter like here?

Well, the weather can be cold and unpredictable, so it's important to be prepared for that. Perhaps we are blessed with a sunny day, but that’s pretty rare here.

As a wedding photographer who’s been on the field for a while, I do have some backup plans in case of bad weather.

What you need to worry about is to stay warm, so make sure you and your guests are prepared with warm clothing options: gloves, warm coats, hand warmers, anything works. You will take your coats off when we shoot if you don’t like it, but it’s crucial that you stay warm while we walk.

Christmas Time

Christmas is a VERY popular time to get married in Denmark, so be sure to book your venues and vendors well in advance. The city is a little jewel of Christmas decorations and we’ll make sure we include them in your wedding photos. Tivoli Gardens - an old amusement park a few steps away from City Hall, is at its best with its stunning Christmas decoration. And finally, embrace the festive spirit of Copenhagen by serving traditional Danish food and drink at your reception.

Pros and cons of getting married in Copenhagen during winter

Let’s start with the bad news. As we said, winter days in Copenhagen might be quite cold and rainy, but that’s even not all of it. The days are much shorter than the rest of Europe, and the sun sets pretty early. Keep it in mind, when planning your wedding day!

On the plus side, the city is incredibly beautiful during this time of year. The Christmas markets are a must-see, as well as Tivoli Gardens, and if you’re lucky enough to get snow you will have a stunning backdrop.

What to expect when getting married in Copenhagen during winter

Copenhagen is a beautiful city to get married in, no matter what time of year it is. However, if you're planning on getting married during the winter months, there are a few extra things you should keep in mind. Here are some additional tips for getting married in Copenhagen during winter:

  1. Lower your expectations: many people imagine sunny days in winter wonderland and get disappointed when they get grey and wet weather.

  2. Check the weather forecast a few days before the wedding, we’ll plan our route accordingly.

  3. Stay warm, at all costs! I’ll never repeat this enough. Freezing during a photo shoot is no fun.

  4. If you can, avoid wearing a dress that touches the ground. The rain will make it soggy.

  5. For the same reason, bring some spare shoes for the walking part, for Copenhagen’s cobblestones streets.
