Jenelle & Kaitlyn
LGBTQ+ elopement in Aarhus, Denmark
Some weddings unfold exactly as planned. This was definitely NOT one of them - and that’s precisely what made it unforgettable.
Jenelle and Kaitlyn flew all the way from Australia to get married in Aarhus, a city I had never photographed in before. It was supposed to be a beautiful summer day with an outdoor ceremony in a garden. Instead, it poured. It really poured.
But here’s what stayed with me: they didn’t fight it. They understood there was nothing they could do, and they moved forward anyway.
Their ceremony still took place outside, under umbrellas, and the rain became a third character in the story. It wrapped around them, softened the world, and created an atmosphere of intimacy that sunshine could never have delivered.
Their dynamic together was solid and protective, with a playful energy that made photographing them feel effortless. I started with their getting-ready moments, where the nerves were more about the day itself than the camera, but once we stepped into the storm, they relaxed into themselves. The rain forced us to stay close, physically and emotionally, and that closeness shaped the entire visual narrative.
Photographing in weather like that is both challenging and strangely magical. Finding dry spots was nearly impossible, and I was mildly terrified my camera might be affected.
But the images that came out of it carry a depth and mood that only a storm can give. The umbrellas, the movement, the way they held each other, everything felt more grounded, more real.
